The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have surprised everyone by pulling off an amazing 10-run victory over table-toppers Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 26th encounter of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) season taking place at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. On a slow looking Jaipur pitch, Lucknow Super Giants managed to successfully defend a par total of 154 runs against a star-studded Rajasthan Royals batting line-up. This is the fourth victory in the ongoing IPL 2023 season for the Lucknow Super Giants.

For the Lucknow Super Giants, Kyle Mayers played an excellent knock of 51 runs off 42 deliveries on a tough batting wicket while Avesh Khan was the pick of the bowlers with a stunning spell of 3 for 25. However, it was Marcus Stoinis who came up with a brilliant all-round performance that helped the Lucknow Super Giants come on the top as he scored crucial 21 runs with the bat and also picked up two important wickets. Stoinis was named the Man of the Match award winner in the RR vs LSG IPL 2023 match.

After having lost the toss and being asked to bat first, the Lucknow Super Giants got off to an impressive start as both their openers, Kyle Mayers and skipper KL Rahul played cautiously and added a fine opening partnership of 82 runs. LSG captain KL Rahul got a start of 39 runs but he failed to convert into a big innings. However, Mayers batted really well and scored his third half-century of the ongoing IPL 2023 season. The Lucknow Super Giants ended up losing wickets at regular intervals during the middle-overs stage.

But, towards the end, both Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran stitched an important stand of 45 runs which helped the Lucknow Super Giants finish with a fighting total of 154 for 7 in their 20 overs. Stoinis smashed 21 runs off 16 balls while Pooran scored 29 runs. For the Rajasthan Royals, Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers having taken two wickets.

During the run-chase, the Rajasthan Royals also started off their innings very well as their in-form opening batsmen, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler stitched an impressive partnership of 87 runs for the first wicket. Jaiswal played really well for his 44 runs off 35 deliveries. After picking the first wicket, the Lucknow Super Giants bowlers kept on striking with regular wickets at crucial junctures. Buttler contributed with a very slow innings of 40 runs that came off 41 balls before getting dismissed by Stoinis. For the Rajasthan Royals, last game’s hero with the bat, Shimron Hetmyer failed to contribute much with the bat.

Towards the end, Devdutt Padikkal smacked 26 runs off 21 balls but he failed to take his team over the line as right-arm pacer Avesh Khan bowled a superb last over where he successfully defended 19 runs and also picked up two vital wickets. For LSG, Avesh finished with as many as three wickets while Stoinis also bowled really well as he took figures of 2 for 28. While making his IPL debut, Naveen-ul-Haq conceded just 19 runs in his four overs.
