After ending the year with 2-1 series win against Windies, team India’s first assignment in the New Year will be the 3 T20Is against Sri Lanka. The series will begin with the first T20Is at Guwahati on January 05, followed with the second at Indore on January 07 and third at Pune on January 10. The 3 T20Is against Sri Lanka will be followed by as many ODIs against Australia.
The current selection committee will pick teams for both the series – 3 T20Is against Sri Lanka and 3 ODIs against Australia on December 26, Thursday. Rohit Sharma is likely to miss the series as he has opted for rest in the T20Is against Sri Lanka. However, he is likely to return for the ODIs against Australia.
Rohit Sharma update from BCCI official
As per a BCCI source, “The selectors normally don’t give rest to anyone in the T20 team, but Rohit has been on the road for quite a while now. He has informed the Board that he wants to take rest for this series.”
In Rohit Sharma’s absence, Shikhar Dhawan is likely to return to the setup. Dhawan sustained a knee injury in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy which forced him to miss the ODI as well as T20Is series against WIndies.
Jasprit Bumrah is also gearing up in the nets
Jasprit Bumrah who has been out of the game for almost four months due to a lower back injury has returned to the nets. The ace pacer was seen practising in the nets before Vizag ODI and it will be interesting to see if gets selected for the T20Is series against Sri Lanka or not.
He hasn’t been cleared by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and the selectors will have to wait for the clean chit from the management.
Hardik Pandya to feature against Australia
All-rounder Hardik Pandya is also set to return into action against Australia. He has been out of the game for four months now due to lower back injury and is training hard in the nets.
