RCB VS KKR playing 11 KKR

KKR destroyed the defending champions in Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2022 opener by 6 wickets to get off to a strong start to their season. They played with only 3 overseas players for the first game which was the right decision to say the least. Lets take a look at the composition of their playing 11 for the 2nd game against RCB.

RCB vs KKR: Cummins, Finch unavailable for Match 6 of IPL 2022

KKR will still be without their lead pacer Pat Cummins for this game. The Australian white ball captain Aaron Finch is unavailable as well.

Their death bowling was a big concern but Umesh Yadav breaking the game inside the powerplay turned out to be a game changing moment. The presence of Pat Cummins would not have solved all of their death bowling issues but the experience and reputation of Pat Cummins cannot be discounted. Shivam Mavi and Andre Russell struggled to execute their plan very badly against MS Dhoni in the first game.

KKR do have the options of playing an additional overseas player in the place of Sheldon Jackson. The overseas options available on the bench are Chamika Karunaratne, Mohammad Nabi and Tim Southee. The Kiwi pacer has joined with the squad and even started training. Sam Billings can take care of wicket keeping duties in the absence of Sheldon Jackson but it is nice to see KKR trusting an Indian option who has toiled hard over the years in the domestic circuit for long.

KKR’s strong suite is their spin department and it once again came in handy in the first game and they don’t have any need to mess with that combination.

Probable KKR playing 11

  1. Venkatesh Iyer
  2. Ajinkya Rahane
  3. Shreyas Iyer
  4. Nitish Rana
  5. Sam Billings
  6. Andre Russell
  7. Sunil Narine
  8. Tim Southee/Sheldon Jackson
  9. Shivam Mavi
  10. Umesh Yadav
  11. Varun Chakaravarthy

KKR trusted Andre Russell with four overs in the game and didn’t use their sixth bowling option in Venkatesh Iyer. If their death bowlers continue to leak runs, it wont be a bad idea to try Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine for an over at death.
