Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have been dealt a major blow in IPL 2023 with the news that young batter Rajat Patidar has been ruled out of the tournament with an Achilles heel injury. This comes after the team’s impressive start to the campaign against the Mumbai Indians, where they won by 8 wickets.
Rajat Patidar IPL 2023: Rajat Patidar ruled out
Patidar, who burst onto the scene last year with a match-winning century against the Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator, was initially not a part of the RCB camp and came in as a replacement for wicketkeeper-batter Lunvith Sisodia. Patidar went on to score a half-century in the second qualifier, but RCB lost to Rajasthan Royals and were ultimately knocked out.
No replacement named for Patidar as of now
The coaches and team management have decided not to name a replacement player for Patidar, according to the franchise. Prior to the start of the season, a report was surfacing which stated that Patidar would miss the first half of the tournament, with a decision on his participation to be made later depending on his recovery.

Patidar’s absence is a significant blow to RCB, who will now have to make do things without one of their promising batters. It remains to be seen how the team will adapt to this setback and whether they will bring in any changes to their playing XI in the upcoming matches.
RCB performance so far in IPL 2023
RCB has started their season campaign on a rollicking note. The Faf du Plessis led side decimated 5-time champs Mumbai Indians by 8 wickets in their opening game at the Chinnaswamy stadium. Fifties from skipper Faf and the one and only Virat Kohli helped RCB scale a target of 171 with 8 wickets in their kitty. They will next face Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on April 6.
