Trinbago Knight Rider’s skipper and star all-rounder Kieron Pollard went nuts during TKR’s run-chase against the Barbados Tridents as he scored 72 runs in just 28 balls. The match had almost slipped away from TKR’s reach when Pollard came out to bat. But he defied all odds to secure a win for TKR from an unwinnable position to help them elongate their undefeated streak.

Kieron Pollard turns the fate of the match

Scoring at 12 runs per over is not a new thing in T20 cricket. The shortest format of the game has evolved so much that the audience is used to these kinds of run-chases. But most of these run chases have happened in flat tracks. It is even impossible to think of scoring at 12 runs per over in a slow bowling pitch. But such a miracle happened in Queen’s Park Oval last night when Pollard decided to take the matters to his own hands.

Needing 149 to win in 20 overs, TKR suffered early blow as Barbados captain Jason Holder ran through their batting order in the second over. From there on TKR lost wickets in quick succession before their skipper came into bat. Struggling at 62-5, TKR looked nowhere near the winning position, when he came out to bat. The equation was left to 87 runs needed off 44 balls. Pollard didn’t fumble and took matters to his own hand as he single-handedly took TKR home by plundering Barbados bowlers to all parts of the ground. His quick-fire knock of 72 from 28 balls included two fours and nine massive sixes.

With this knock, Pollard helped TKR to extend their undefeated run in the tournament. They now have won all the six matches that they played in CPL 2020. The match saw another twist in the tale towards the flag end of the match as Pollard was run-out in the first ball of the last over, with 9 runs still required. But a steady headed Pierre made sure that TKR crossed the last hurdle by hitting a six of Reifer during the fourth ball. Batting first Tridents scored 148 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs courtesy of Johnson Charles (47) and Kyle Mayers (42).
