Peshawar Zalmi PSL 2024 Player List
Babar Azam (c), Saim Ayub, Mohammad Haris (wk), Tom-Kohler Cadmore, Rovman Powell, Asif Ali, Aamir Jamal, Naveen-ul-Haq, Noor Ahmad, Salman Irshad, Mohammad Zeeshan, Haseebullah Khan (wk), Dan Mousley, Arif Yaqoob, Mehran Mumtaz, Khurram Shahzad, Umair Afridi, Lungi Ngidi
Following Azam, they have an explosive lineup featuring five batters renowned for their power-hitting abilities: Saim Ayub, Mohammad Haris, Tom-Kohler Cadmore, Rovman Powell, and Asif Ali.
Their batting lineup is stacked with talent to the extent that even Haseebullah Khan, a promising emerging batter retained before the draft, might find it challenging to secure a spot in the starting XI.
Peshawar’s draft selections primarily focused on acquiring Afghanistan duo Naveen-ul-Haq and Noor Ahmad, along with Pakistan’s seasoned power-hitter Asif Ali, known for his memorable performance against them in the 2019 final. Additionally, they secured Dan Mousley, an English off-spinning all-rounder, with hopes of his development in the upcoming seasons.
However, Peshawar might grapple with their bowling resources. The scheduling of the PSL playoffs in March, coinciding with the IPL’s commencement, poses a challenge as their overseas bowlers Naveen and Noor are regulars in the IPL. Potential commitments with Afghanistan hosting Ireland for a series in Abu Dhabi might limit Noor’s availability in the PSL to a few weeks.
The team also lacks a local fast bowler regularly featured in Pakistan’s T20I squad. They are banking on Salman Irshad, acquired via right-to-match, and Mohammad Zeeshan, a towering 6ft 8in fast bowler currently representing Pakistan in the U19 Asia Cup in the UAE.
While their batting lineup exudes strength and depth, Peshawar Zalmi faces a potential challenge in managing their bowling resources due to overseas commitments and a shortage of seasoned local pacers. Balancing these factors will be crucial for their campaign’s success in the upcoming season of the PSL.
