PBKS Playing 11 2024: Punjab Kings Player List, Players Bought at IPL Auction 2024

Led by veteran India opener Shikhar Dhawan, PBKS opted to release just seven players ahead of the IPL 2024 retention deadline. The Punjab-based franchise let go of Baltej Singh, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Mohit Rathee, Raj Angad Bawa, Shahrukh Khan, Matthew Short and Gurnoor Brar ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.

Despite having a good-looking core playing XI, Punjab lacks a good bowling attack. They needed a contingent upgrade in that area. And that will be bolstered by Harshal Patel now.

Despite a strong start to the IPL 2023 campaign, Punjab Kings finished eighth in the points table, with six wins and eight losses in 14 matches. A lot was expected from the team, having secured the services of 2022 T20 World Cup’s ‘Player of the Tournament’ Sam Curran for a record bid of Rs 18.50 crore last season. PBKS went in with a purse of Rs 29.10 crore in the IPL 2024 mini-auction.

While four overseas (i.e. Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran and Nathan Ellis) almost cemented their places in the playing XI, they needed a good spin bowler. They have now added Tanay Thyagarajan as a backup spinner. They have got Harshal Patel & Rilee Rossouw now. Now they have a stronger squad to run into the upcoming season.
