Pat Cummins Not Playing 3rd Test: Australia’s cricket captain Pat Cummins has left the tour of India after the second Test due to a family health emergency. The cricketer has returned home to Sydney for a few days to attend to the matter, but plans to return to India for the preparations leading up to the third Test in Indore.
Pat Cummins Not Playing 3rd Test: Who will be Australia Captain in IND vs AUS 3rd Test?
The decision comes after Australia’s six-wicket loss to India in the second Test held in Delhi. Currently, Australia is down 2-0 in the four-match series, with two more Tests to play. The third Test is scheduled to begin on March 1, providing the team with a nine-day break to prepare for the game. The absence of their captain could be a significant blow to the Australian cricket team’s morale. Cummins is a key player and his leadership is vital to the team’s performance. However, the team will have to adjust and find a new captain to lead them in the third Test against India. It remains to be seen who will take on this role, but whoever it is, they will have big shoes to fill.
Pat Cummins, who played as the sole quick in Australia’s XI in the second Test against India in Delhi, did not bowl in the fourth innings of the match as India successfully chased down Australia’s target of 115 to win the Test inside three days. Despite this, it is reported that Cummins is not expected to miss the upcoming Test in Indore.
In the event that Cummins is unable to lead the team in the third Test, vice-captain Steven Smith is expected to step in as the captain. Smith has previously captained the Australian team in Cummins’ absence on two occasions since the fast bowler took over the Test captaincy in late 2021.
While the loss of their captain is certainly a setback for Australia, they have a capable replacement in Smith. As one of the most experienced members of the team, Smith is well-versed in leading his side and has a proven track record as a successful captain. In fact, under his captaincy, Australia has won both Test matches they have played in his absence.
Despite this, the Australian team will be keen to have Cummins back in the side as soon as possible. His absence from the fourth innings of the second Test was noticeable, and the team will be hoping to have him fully fit and firing for the remainder of the series.
With the series currently at 2-0 in favor of India, Australia faces an uphill battle to come back and win the series. However, with Smith at the helm and the team determined to bounce back, they will be looking to put in a strong performance in the third Test and keep their hopes alive.
