After two lackluster performances and being ridiculed on social media, it looks like Hardik Pandya is back with a vengeance. At Trent Bridge, during the third match that had all eyes on India, Pandya lived up to the hype around him. India was able to get ten wickets and five of them belonged to Pandya.
Yes, believe it or not, but the stubborn all-rounder rampaged through England’s batsman. A few other names on the excellent fielding list were Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul. Pant, the new replacement making his debut proved to be an excellent wicket-keeper with five catches. KL Rahul was able to get three catches that resulted in Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, and Ben Stokes walking back to the pavilion.
Jos Buttler was the one who gave India problems as he helped England go from 129/9 to 161. Had it not been for Buttler, India may have had this match over sooner.
What makes this redemption so remarkable is that Pandya’s five wickets came in only 29 balls. Two balls less than the great Harbhajan Singh. Harbhajan Singh got five wickets in 27 balls while playing against Windies at Kingston in 2006. This made Panday’s fans on social media rethinking all the criticism they gave him for his first two performances. This also proved that when the conditions are right as there was no rainfall, team India can be devastating on foreign soil.
The English host’s fall began with Alastair Cook by Ishant Sharma. Keaton Jennings was next followed by Ollie Pope. This is what led England from being at 54/0 to 161 all out. Pandya was indeed able to redeem himself in this match and show that he was exactly what everyone hoped for him to be.
He along with debutant Rishabh Pant were able to keep England down. The fall of wickets was as follows:
1-54 -Cook, 11.6 overs
2-54 -Jennings, 12.1 overs
3-75 -Pope, 19.1 overs
4-86 -Root, 24.1 overs
5-10 – Stokes, 29.2 overs
6-11 -Bairstow, 30.1 overs
7-118 -Woakes, 30.6 overs
8-128 -Rashid, 32.1 overs
9-128 -Broad, 32.5 overs
10-161 -Buttler, 38.2 overs
