‘Hardik Pandya deserved the Man of the Match award’
India skipper Virat Kohli won the Man 0f the Match award at Trent Bridge after scoring 200 runs where India thrashing England in the third Test match.
However, former Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar has said that he believes that all-rounder Hardik Pandya also deserved the Man of the Match award and he should have shared the award with Virat Kohli for his match-winning contribution of a five-wicket haul in Nottingham.
Virat Kohli’s scored 97 runs and 103 runs in the third Test match to help India post a mammoth total of 521 runs but, Pandya’s five-wicket haul on Day 2 proved to be the turning point of the match where he conceded 28 runs in 6 overs to cripple the English batting order.
Pandya’s five-wicket haul was the turning point of the match
Tendulkar said, “I think they should have shared the award as both the players played significant roles in the team’s victory. Virat’s each inning was crucial as he helped India set a solid foundation and his knock of 103 runs in the second innings ensured that India gave them a stiff target to chase,” said Tendulkar.
“Pandya’s five wickets were crucial. Players like Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root are in-form batsman and to dismiss them was critical. Pandya even scored a half-century in the second innings for taking a target beyond 500.”
In pursuit of 329, England were bowled out for a paltry 161 and scored 317/7 in their second innings.
Pandya was criticized for his ordinary show in the first two Tests and he was also being compared with legendary Kapil Dev, but he shunned all his critics with his unbeaten fifty in India’s second innings.
Pandya, who had played 10 Tests, produced his career-best performance in the last match.
India is all set to play the fourth Test at Rose Bowl, Southampton, on August 30.
