Pakistan fans are elated to see their cricketing heroes play on their home at regular intervals after a huge 10 year gulf. South Africa is the latest nation to agree to tour to Pakistan for a 2 match test series followed by a 3 match T20I series. The first test kick-started at Karachi yesterday and turned out to be an enthralling day of test cricket.

South Africa won the toss and decided to bat first on what looked like a flat wicket with some assistance with the new ball for fast bowlers but due to some reckless batting from South Africans and some acrobatic fielding efforts by Pakistanis, the Proteas were restricted to 220 runs in their first innings.
Mohammad Rizwan’s breathtaking effort
Risky singles are something that makes little to no sense even in the shortest format of the game in T20s, let alone test cricket. There have been quite a few instances where batsmen have lost their wicket in search for that non-existent cheeky single. One such instance happened on day 1 when Rassie Van der Dussen was looking for a quick single after having hit the ball directly to the mid-off fielder.

The wicket started to take turn on day 1 when Yasir Shah and Nauman Ali were bowling. Dean Elgar top-scored for South Africa with another gritty half century. South Africa’s 2 experienced batsmen in Quinton de Kock and Faf du Plessis couldn’t do much with the bat as both made a grand total of 38 runs between them.
Pakistan in driver’s seat
Though, South Africa came back well in the last hour of play to restrict Pakistan to 33 for 4, the host country have all their in-form batsmen intact with Azhar Ali and Fawad Alam at the crease followed by Mohammad Rizwan and Faheem Ashraf. Pakistan will look to score at least 300 in their first innings which will fetch them a lead of 80 runs.
