Afghanistan has announced a formidable 18-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Pakistan, to be held in Sri Lanka. The squad features the return of Noor Ahmad, who is set to play a crucial role as Afghanistan fine-tunes its final combination ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023 in India later this year.

While Noor Ahmad’s inclusion is a positive sign for Afghanistan, left-arm spinner Zia Ur Rahman Akbar, who recently made his ODI debut against Bangladesh, has missed out on a spot in the squad. Additionally, uncapped leg-spinner Izharulhaq Naveed, who was part of the Test squad, has also been left out.
However, fast bowlers Mohammad Saleem Safi and Wafadar Momand, who were part of Afghanistan’s recent ODI tour to Bangladesh, have successfully retained their spots in the squad. ACB Chief Selector Asadullah Khan emphasized that the team’s primary focus is to prepare for the upcoming Asia Cup and the World Cup in 2023. The three-match ODI series against Pakistan provides an excellent opportunity for the team to fine-tune their strategies and combinations ahead of these significant events.
The preparations for the series against Pakistan are in full swing, with the players showcasing promising performances in the Kabul Camp, supervised by ACB’s HPC staff. Before the series, the team will undergo a week-long conditioning camp to further hone their skills and fitness.
