Oman and UAE to host T20 World Cup: The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 was to take place in India in the October-November window. However, the fear of a third wave of the COVID-19 within the nation could lead to a change in venue.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already given in an indication to the ICC that it would be best if the tournament is moved away from India. The ongoing pandemic led the BCCI to suspend IPL 2021 halfway through as well.
As for the T20 World Cup, the ICC could yet again consider the UAE for the ideal venue, but it’s Oman too that has put its name in the mix.
T20 World Cup 2021 Venue
The Oman Cricket secretary, Madhu Jesrani has also had a word with the BCCI and ICC regarding the matter.
“We have been approached by ICC and the chairman of Oman Cricket, Pankaj Khimji, is in talks with the BCCI which is due to host the tournament. The talks with BCCI have just started. The ICC asked us for certain things that they are looking at in a hosting venue and we have given them the details.
“We have told them that we are ready. We have two turf pitch grounds, including one with floodlights,” Madhu Jesrani was quoted saying.
Oman will be one of the 16 teams that will be taking part in the mega event. Oman’s capital city Muscat has two cricket stadiums that are in contention of hosting the tournament too.
