Deepak Chahar NZ vs IND: In an important news development, India are not playing right-arm seamer Deepak Chahar in the first of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand scheduled to be played at the Eden Park in Auckland. Team India will now be eyeing to prepare well and pick their best possible combination for the upcoming 50-overs World Cup scheduled to be hosted at home next year.
NZ vs IND: Why is Deepak Chahar Not Playing Today’s New Zealand vs India 1st ODI Match?
After having lost the toss and being asked to bat first, Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan mentioned that they have two debutants playing today who are Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik. In a really surprising selection, the Men in Blue have not included premier pace bowler Deepak Chahar in the playing XI. Incidentally, Chahar was originally part of the reserves for the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2022 but he got injured at the last moment and did not play the ODI series against South Africa at home earlier this year. The Indian team management have gone ahead with Shardul Thakur in the side, however, they have only five frontline bowling options and no Deepak Hooda in the team who could have provided with some useful overs of off-spin.
“It’s an amazing place, I enjoy playing over here. No issues batting first, I would have bowled first. I feel the wicket is a bit sticky but the sun is out and it should dry out soon. With this team, we have played a few series earlier as well. It’s a good opportunity for all the youngsters to perform and show their talents. We are very fortunate that we’ve got Indians all over the world and they keep supporting us, we are grateful for it. We’ve got 2 debutants – Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik,” said Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan during the toss.
