New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor has admitted that Indian skipper Virat Kohli is an important player but at the same time he wants New Zealand bowlers to focus on Indian openers as he feels they play a crucial role as well.
India have pretty good openers at the top: Taylor
The New Zealand batsman was speaking with an online news portal. He said that the Indian captain Virat Kohli is a sensational player, the best one-day player going around, quite easily.
He admitted that it is easy to get caught up in him. But he reminded everyone that you have got two pretty good openers at the top, Sharma and Dhawan, before he gets in.
The purple patch of Indian openers
Virat Kohli has taken the cricket world by storm with his incredible batting but at the same time Indian openers have done incredibly well in ODI cricket.
The pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma has remained prolific in the recent times and has given the perfect start for the Indian captain to play his natural game and consolidate the innings.
Rohit Sharma averaged more than 70 in 2017 and 2018 and he has started 2019 with a hundred against Australia. Dhawan on the other hand has averaged close to 50 in the last two years and has belted six hundreds as well.
My game has evolved in a positive way: Taylor
The Kiwi batsman also spoke about his role in the team and the developments in his batting. He said that he has played a few internationals now and he understands his role in the team.
He noted that he has worked on his game and he tries to rotate the strike early and be as busy as he can. He feels that different shots against spinners at different stages have maybe evolved his game in a positive way.
