‘No way Team India can visit Pakistan,’ BCCI unwilling to take part in Asia Cup

The forthcoming Asia Cup has been creating quite a bit of stir after news broke out that Team India might skip the tournament due it being hosted in Pakistan later this year. The Asia Cup was supposedly scheduled in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) earlier but it was later shifted by the higher officials.

Given the political tensions between the two nations, the Men in Blue travelling to Pakistan always seemed a long shot at this point of time. As per a source in the vicinity of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the chances of Pakistan hosting India for a series or a tournament is zero to none.

BCCI unwilling to change its stance

The question isn’t about the PCB [Pakistan Cricket Board] hosting the tournament. It is about the venue and as things stand now, it is quite clear that we would need a neutral venue. There is no way that an Indian team can visit Pakistan to even participate in a multi-nation event like the Asia Cup.

If the Asian Cricket Council [ACC] is ok with an Asia Cup minus India then it is a different ball game. But if India is to participate in the Asia Cup, then the venue cannot be Pakistan

With that being said, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) did mention about conducting a meeting on February regarding the issue but might leave the ball on the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB)  to make a decision.

The ACC’s response

ACC will have a meeting sometime in February to discuss issues related to the hosting of the Asia Cup this year. This year Pakistan is the host so it is Pakistan’s call if they want to host the tournament or not, the ACC stated.
