Royal Challengers Bangalore has appointed former South Africa batsman and former India coach Gary Kirsten as their new coach and mentor.
Former India coach under whose guidance India won the World Cup 2011 had joined RCB as the batting coach ahead of IPL 2018.
RCB stated in its official statement, “Gary Kirsten who joined RCB in 2018 as batting coach brings a wealth of experience to the team as he has an experience of playing more than 700 matches and has scored 40,000 runs across all formats. Since taking over as the Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team in 2008 and guiding them to World Cup victory in 2011, Gary Kirsten has coached at the highest level with 2 years as South African cricket team head coach, Head Coach in the T20 for 3 season and 1 season with Hobart Hurricanes before joining RCB in the last edition.”
The franchise had recently sacked Daniel Vettori as the head coach. Former New Zealand was the head coach of RCB from 2013 to 2018.
When asked about his appointment, Gary Kirsten said, “I got the privilege of coaching RCB last season under coach Vettori and it was a wonderful experience.”
“I look forward to continuing the journey with RCB and I will try my best to help the franchise reach its potential.”
“I am grateful to the franchise for providing me with this leadership position. I look forward to having a few successful few years,” he added.
Former Royal Challengers Bangalore also shared his experience and said, “I am extremely grateful for the eight years I have spent with the franchise, as a player and a coach. I wish the team all the best moving forward.”
Kirsten had also served as the coach of another IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils.
Royal Challengers will look forward to getting rid of the chokers tag and lifting the IPL trophy in the next edition of the Indian Premier League.
