Bangladesh cricketer Nafees Iqbal tests positive for Covid-19

The deadly coronavirus pandemic has created havoc around the world like never before. It has affected people from all walks of life, and cricketers are no different. As per the latest reports, Nafees Iqbal, the elder brother of Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal, has been tested positive for the COVID-19. Earlier this week former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi was also tested positive for the same.
Nafees Iqbal tested positive for COVID-19
Nafees Iqbal, a former Bangladesh cricketer and the brother of Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been tested positive for the COVID-19 according to many Bangladesh newspapers. But as of now, Nafees is in stable condition and there is no scope for worries.
He has played 27 international matches for Bangladesh across all formats. He made his international debut in 2003 in an ODI against the England team at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram. He made his test debut the immediate next year, but he couldn’t provide consistent performances for his side to match his potential. In total, he played 11 Tests and 16 ODIs scoring 518 and 309 runs respectively. In February 2018, he ended his career having scored 4 half-centuries and 1 century to his name.
The situation worsens in Bangladesh
Bangladesh is going through tough times in dealing with the deadly virus. As of on July 19, a total of 1,05,535 positive cases have been reported in the country and 42,945, which accounts for over 40.49 percent of the infected, have made recovery. The increased population density in the nation seems to create worries regarding the spreading of the virus. As of now, it has claimed 1388 lives in the country.
When Nafees Iqbal donned the role of a translator
Apart from being a cricketer, he is famous in India and around the world for being the translator of Mustafizur Rahman in Indian Premier League 2018. He was part of the Mumbai Indians support staff back in that year too. He shares a close relationship with all MI players and support staff.
