वसीम अकरम और सचिन तेंदुलकर उन दिग्गज खिलाड़ियों में से है जिन्होने एक पूरी पीढ़ी को प्रेरित किया. अपने करियर के दौरान भी दोनों ही खिलाड़ी कई यादगार किस्सों में शामिल रहे.

सचिन तेंदुलकर ने अपना पदार्पण 16 की उम्र में किया था और अपने पहले मुकाबले में ही उन्हे पाकिस्तान के खिलाफ तेज गेंदबाजी का सामना करना था. गौरतलब है कि उस वक़्त पाकिस्तान के गेंदबाजी क्रम में वसीम अकरम भी शामिल थे.

पाकिस्तान बनाम भारत के मुकाबलों में अक्सर स्लेजिंग होती है और सचिन तेंदुलकर भी इससे बचे नहीं.

एक इंटरव्यू के दौरान, अकरम ने बताया कि 1989 में सचिन के पदार्पण मुकाबले के दौरान पूरी टीम ने उनकी स्लेजिंग की थी.

उस वक़्त तक अकरम अन्तराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट में अपनी साख जमा चुके थे, और सचिन युवा बल्लेबाज थे.

पाकिस्तानी खिलाड़ियों ने सचिन की प्रतिभा के बारे में सुना था और इसी कारण उनके सब्र को जांचने के लिए यह किया गया.

अकरम ने एक इंटरव्यू में कहा कि,

“सचिन के बारे में हमने काफी कुछ पढ़ा था. वे 16 वर्षीय थे पर जब वे बल्लेबाजी करने आए तो 14 वर्ष के लगे और तब मैंने उनसे पूछा कि, मम्मी से पूछ के आया है?.”

इसी सत्र के दौरान मिस्बाह उल हक, अब्दुल कादिर, हरभजन सिंह, मोहम्मद अज़हर, रविचंद्रन अश्विन, मुथैया मुरलीधरन और मदन लाल ने भी अपने विचार साझा किए.

भज्जी ने एक रोचक किस्सा बताया

भारतीय दिग्गज स्पिनर हरभजन सिंह ने अकरम के साथ हुआ एक किस्सा बताया. उन्होने कहा कि अकरम की गेंद को चौका मार कर उन्होने माफी मांगी थी.

हरभजन ने कहा कि,

” मैंने वसीम भाई को हमेशा अपना हीरो माना है. मैं जब अपना चौथा या पांचवा टेस्ट मैच खेल रहा था तब वे मेरे खिलाफ थे. मैं उनकी गेंद पर चौका लगाया और वे अपनी गेंदबाजी वाली जगह की ओर जाते हुए बोले कि, ‘तेरी…’ और जवाब में मैंने कहा कि ‘पाजी गलती हो गई’.”

When Akram trolled Sachin

Wasim Akram and Sachin Tendulkar among the legendary players who have set a benchmark for the generations to come. During their careers also, both of them were part of memorable some on-field tussles.

Sachin Tendulkar made his international debut at the age of 16 and in his first game itself, he was exposed to the brutal pace attack of Pakistan which boasted of the speedsters like Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram in it.

Sledging and hammering are the part and parcel of the game and even young Tendulkar was not spared from it.

While talking in an interview, Akram revealed an interesting incident where both exchanged a few words during Sachin’s first international tour to Pakistan in 1989.

Akram, who was an established name in the game of cricket by then, told that when a young Sachin came out to bat against Pakistan, he mocked Sachin.

Pakistani players had heard of Sachin’s talent and Akram tried to test the patience of the batsman by asking if he had asked his mother before coming out on the pitch.

“We had read a lot about Sachin, he was being regarded as the upcoming sensation. A 16-year old. But when he came out to bat he looked just 14 and I told him, Mummy se pooch k aaya hai?” Akram quoted in an interview.

In the session, other big guns of the game like Misbah-ul-Haq, Abdul Qadir, Harbhajan Singh, Mohammad Azharuddin, R Ashwin, Habibul Bashar, Muttiah Muralitharan and Madan Lal also present who shared their experiences with the audience.

Bhajji reveals an interesting incident

Indian veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh also recalled an incident that involved Akram. He told that he had apologized to Akram for scoring a boundary off him.

Harbhajan Singh said, “I had always admired Wasim bhai. He was my hero and it was my third fourth Test match. Playing against him was a big thing for me, I was really scared to bat against him. However, I managed to hit a four against him. On his way back, he was like “teri…” and I said, “Paaji glti ho gyi.”
