Mumbai Indians have had an amazing IPL last time out in late 2020. The IPL that was supposed to happen in April May window was postponed due to the Corona Virus pandemic.
So the IPL was conducted in the September-October window, but a change in dates and change in venue didn’t bring a change of fortunes for other franchises. So the IPL saw the same winner as 2019 for 2020 as well – The Mumbai Indians.
Brand MI is on the top of the table
The 2020 IPL winners have registered the highest brand value in the tournament, having enjoyed a 7.1% increase in their brand value. A popular agency that calculates the brand value for every popular brand in the country called “Brand Finance” which is based out of Mumbai only. They have calculated the brand value of Mumbai Indians and that has come up to be an amount of 70.3 million US Dollors. That value roughly translates to 5,13,95,59,185 Indian Rupees.
The Mumbai Indian have come across this whole new piece of information and an official from the company has commented on the same recently. In a statement, the Mumbai Indians said:
“This year’s IPL has been one of the most successful years for us on and off-the-field and we, at Mumbai Indians, embrace it with a lot of gratitude. We take a lot of pride in how we have nurtured brand Mumbai Indians over the years balancing our core values and ethos and replicating them in our brand building initiatives.”
CSK placed second despite huge loss
Chennai Super Kings are a brand that has the most popular following and CSK cricket team are arguably the most liked as well as hated team in all of IPL. The brand of CSK had a major blow when the team was suspended from participating in the tournament for two years(2016,17) after their owner was found to have participated in illegal betting activities in 2015. Then there was a raise and after CSK won the tournament in 2018 in their glorious return, the stocks were at absolute high. Now after a disastrous campaign on the field, CSK have slipped down in stocks off the field as well as their brand is now on the second place.
In fact CSK was not alone, all the other teams except MI have seen a dip in their brand value. Due to a 20.6% decrease in their value, CSK have now slipped to second as already mentioned. Kolkata Knight Rides have also dropped a down place and are third, followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad. 2020 IPL finalists Delhi Capitals are fifth, with RCB coming in at sixth. Kings XI Punjab rose up one place to seventh, with Rajasthan Royals at the bottom of this table also unfortunately.
