41 days are left for the start of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League, and all teams are preparing to start their respective practice sessions. The schedule is also out and the opening game will see three-time champions Chennai Super Kings will colliding against the defending and four-time champions Mumbai Indians.
Amidst all this, the buzz around MS Dhoni’s return to the cricket field also comes to an end as the CSK team management has announced that their skipper will resume training from 1st March.
The former Indian skipper hasn’t played any competitive cricket since India’s ouster from the ICC World Cup 2019 semifinal against New Zealand. His fans around the world definitely missed his presence of the field and this is definitely one news for them to cherish.
Apart from him, three other names are also in the fray to play competitive cricket since the 2019 edition of IPL. Let’s delve briefly into the names which will make their return in IPL 2020.
Suresh Raina
The swashbuckling left-hander will be making his return on the field after a fairly long hiatus. It wasn’t his form that kept him at bay, but this time around it was a knee injury that prevented him from taking the field.
He had undergone a knee surgery couple of months after the 2019 IPL season and it took him a long time to heal which forced him to miss the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy as well. However, he is fit now and quite eager to be back in the mix of things.
Harbhajan Singh
The veteran off-spinner is one of India’s finest to ever grace the cricket field. He hasn’t played any competitive cricket since IPL 2019 and has made his way majorly commentating for India’s home fixtures.
He is definitely nearing retirement and with this year being his last with CSK (3-year contract), he has to take a call on his future sooner rather than later.
Varun Chakravarthy
He was the costliest uncapped buy in the 2019 edition of IPL as Kings XI Punjab invested their money for this rookie hailing from Tamil Nadu. However, a finger injury cut-short his maiden IPL stint for only a single game and forced him to sit out of the TNPL as well.
He was again the Million Dollar baby in this auction when Kolkata Knight Riders expressed their intent by investing 4 Cr for the mystery spinner. Now, with fitness by his side, he must be looking to fare well in this edition.
