It was another humdinger of a game between one of the underrated rivals in Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings in the game 4 in IPL 2021. Over 420 runs were scored in 40 overs and batsmen dominated the game all the way through but one can’t discount some inspiring bowling by 2 young left arm seamers in Arshdeep Singh and Chetan Sakariya from either side.
Michael Vaughan unhappy with Jos Buttler’s demotion
Rajasthan Royals needed a massive score to pocket 2 points in the season opener against one of the best pace bowling units in the competition in Kings XI Punjab. It appeared that RR decided to use Jos Buttler as a middle order batsman in this season instead as an opener where he is at his destructive best.
One can argue that it is the right decision to split the power hitters evenly as the middle order is not only filled with fringe Indian batters but also the experience of Jos Buttler. But, when the run chase demands to score at 12 runs per over throughout the 20 overs, it was worth taking the punt and deviate from their plan A which was to use Jos Buttler as a middle order batsman to plan B to promote him as an opener.
RR decided to persist with their plan A and this irked former England player Michael Vaughan and the current fast bowler Stuart Broad. They were not happy with this move by Rajasthan Royals and this move didn’t work out either as RR lost the game by 4 runs.
And now @josbuttler doesn’t Open !!!!!!!!!! What are you thinking @rajasthanroyals !!!!! #IPL

Why isn’t @josbuttler opening? Or WK? What have I missed? He’s the best Opening WK in the world, does it for England, why wouldn’t he do it at domestic level?

Can RR stay afloat till the arrival of Jofra Archer?
RR had an excellent auction prior to IPL and they managed to assemble the 3rd best squad on paper but they suffered a huge blow in the form of Jofra Archer who had to withdrew from the first half of the tournament due to an injury.
RR have lost their first game and their bowling looked toothless in the absence of Jofra Archer. It will be interesting to see the position of RR in the points table when Jofra Archer joins the team.
