After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Mumbai Indians have got off to a disappointing start as skipper Rohit Sharma has been dismissed in an unfortunate run out. MI opener Rohit was looking in a fabulous touch in the opening IPL 2021 game but on the last ball of the 4th over, he got involved in a big mix-up with his opening partner Chris Lynn that resulted in the RCB combo of Virat Kohli and Yuzvendra Chahal affecting the run out. Rohit could only manage to score 19 runs off 15 balls in the MI vs RCB match.

The five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians have made two changes from the playing XI that played the IPL 2020 final against Delhi Capitals. The duo of Marco Jansen and Chris Lynn are making their debut for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2021 season opener. Their premier opener Quinton de Kock is yet to finish his mandatory quarantine period.
On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bangalore are also without their last year’s star opening batsman Devdutt Padikkal who has been asked to take some rest as he has just recovered from the deadly coronavirus. In his absence, Rajat Patidar has been awarded a huge opportunity in this game. RCB’s four overseas players are Kyle Jamieson, AB de Villiers, Daniel Christian and Glenn Maxwell for the first game of IPL 2021. Patidar is likely to open the batting with skipper Virat Kohli.
