For the Chennai Super Kings, left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja was once again superb with the ball having taken a total of three wickets. He took the wickets of Mumbai Indians’ important batters, Ishan Kishan, Cameron Green and Tilak Varma to completely break their backbone. Despite, Ajinkya Rahane’s amazing half-century knock, Jadeja was awarded the Man of the Match for his fantastic spell of 3 for 20 from his quota of four overs.

MI vs CSK: Rahane and CSK spinners hand MI second consecutive loss
After losing the toss and being put in to bat first, the Mumbai Indians got off to a brilliant start at the top as both their openers, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan started striking hard from the very first over. Rohit got dismissed by CSK pacer Tushar Deshpande before MI smashed 38 runs in the first four overs. The Mumbai Indians kept on losing wickets at regular intervals with Ishan scoring 32 runs off 21 balls and Suryakumar Yadav recording another failure. The in-form Tilak Varma once again got a fine start of 22 runs but the CSK spinners never really allowed the MI middle-order to flourish. Tim David notched up a cameo of 31 runs off 22 balls but the Mumbai Indians finished with a below-par total of 157 for 8 in their 20 overs.
For the Chennai Super Kings, the spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner bowled really well and claimed three and two wickets respectively while Deshpande also finished with two crucial scalps. During the chase, CSK lost their opening batsman Devon Conway in the very first as Jason Behrendorff bowled a wonderful delivery. However, while playing his first match for the Chennai Super Kings this year in IPL 2023, Ajinkya Rahane played some excellent shots in all parts of the ground and ended up scoring the fastest fifty of this season off just 19 balls. Rahane contributed with an unbelievable innings of 61 runs off only 27 deliveries that included 7 fours and 3 sixes.
Towards the end, Shivam Dube also smacked a fine cameo of 28 runs while Ruturaj Gaikwad stayed unbeaten till the end as the Chennai Super Kings easily won the game with as many as 11 balls to spare. Gaikwad scored 40 runs off 36 balls as he is still the Orange Cap holder with the most runs in IPL 2023 so far.
