The grandest and the best franchise cricket in Indian premier league in all probability could get cancelled for the first time since its inaugural edition in 2008. The whole world has been facing a huge crisis due to the corona pandemic and all the countries have imposed shutdown for at least a month. Some countries like Australia have extended their shutdown period to a whopping 6 months which shows the impact of this disastrous virus.
As the Indian government have suspended the foreign visas till April 15th, there is a high possibility that the date may extend further according to the current situation.
Matter of time!
The IPL governing bodies have already decided their mind regarding the cancellation of this edition of IPL and its only a matter of time that they will announce it officially after having a word with the Indian government regarding the suspension of foreign visas.
A source in the IPL administration said,
IPL will not happen this year. It will now happen next year. We all know how the situation is at the moment in the country and no one will take any risk. One can’t have social distancing in the stadium. It’s better to play IPL next year.
No mega auction next year!
It is a known fact that the mega auction was supposed to happen next year where the franchises will have to release each and every member of their squad except for a handful of players that can be retained by them. But there is a high chance that the mega auction may not happen considering the fact that this edition of IPL will never happen which will postpone the mega auction to the year 2022.
“Also, no mega auction will take place. We will inform the franchises once we get final confirmation from the Indian government, the same season can continue next season,” the same source was quoted as saying.
