INDIAN OPENER COMPLETED 50 RUNS OFF 18 BALLS
Western Storm’s opener Smriti Mandhana smashed the fastest fifty in Women’s T20 historical past thus beating Loughborough Lightning in a rain-shortened cricket game at The Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton. Due to the continuous rain, the game was shortened to a 6-over shootout.
Once Mandhana started batting, it became a competitive temper all over the innings thus resulting in fifty runs within the remaining over of the innings.
She made 52 runs in 19 balls, comprising 5 fours and 4 sixes. This show of Mandhana in 18 balls made her come at par to New Zealand’s Sophie Devine who had reached an identical feat back in 2015. As a result, Western Storm made 85 runs of their allocated six overs.
LIGHTNING OPENERS TRIED THEIR BEST
Chasing an enormous target in 6 overs, the Lightning openers played the bowlers well and therefore Rachael Haynes and Sophie Devine remained unbeaten.
However, they were not able to lead the team to victory, only reaching 67 runs in 6 overs at no loss of a wicket. With all these wins, Western Storm moved onto 9 issues, and at the moment are joint-first together with their warring parties from Sunday’s sport.
MANDHANA’S SHOW
With the best use of fluency and consistency under pressure, the relaxed Mandhana drove Jenny Gunn to the long-off boundary as runs continued to flow.
She then hit a stunning cover drive hence, getting four runs at the ball of Kirstie Gordon as Storm reached 50 runs in the fourth over itself.
Loughborough Lightning’s opening pair of Rachel Haynes and Devine gathered 11 runs in the first over but they failed to register a win for their team.
SCORECARD:-
Western Storm:
85/2 in 6 overs (Smriti Mandhana 52*; Georgia Alwiss 1-17)
Loughborough Lightning:
67/0 in 6 overs (Sophie Devine 46*)
