Kohli’s is the fittest, Greatest Batsman: Roy
Several questions were being raised on Virat Kohli when India toured England in 2014 as it was the only overseas tour where Kohli’s bat lacked the firepower.
With a below par average of 13.40 in the whole series, much of his critics were questioning if Virat would come stronger this time or not?
India are bound to play four more Test matches against England, but Kohli proved in the first Test match itself why he is called one of the best batsmen of the world.
He scored 200 runs in the first Test match and stood concrete as a wall denying to surrender before the English bowlers. Although England won a close-fought match against India at Edgbaston by 31 runs, Kohli’s performance was still was a talking point.
“His self-confidence never dips, it takes a lot for that to take a beating. And That is what makes him very special. He is also the fittest of all. I think he is the fittest, greatest batsman,” England batsman Jason Roy said in a debate during the MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture.
England’s not afraid of Kohli: Roy
For other cricketers pressure situations of such kind where wickets were constantly falling on the other end, would have made them nervous, but not Kohli.
Roy also jumped quickly to deny that England were not scared of him.
“He is an outstanding athlete, an imposing batsman and an imposing batsman, but we will find a way of dismantling him,” Roy said.
Former India batsman and now commentator Sanjay Manjrekar also echoed similar sentiments.
“Sunil Gavaskar quit in 1987 after which Sachin Tendulkar emerged in 1989, and as he winded his illustrious career, we have Kohli,” said Manjrekar.
On Sunday Kohli became the first batsman after Sachin Tendulkar in 2011 to achieve the numero uno position in Tests and ODIs. He jumped past Australian banned cricketer Steve Smith to obtain the position.
