KL Rahul captain Lucknow IPL Team: In a massive development, star Indian cricketer KL Rahul is all set to captain the newly introduced Lucknow-based franchise in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 15th edition of the IPL will see a total of 10 teams competing against each other with the introduction of two new franchises in Lucknow and Ahmedabad. The Lucknow IPL team was procured by the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group, a Kolkata-based multinational company for an astonishing price of INR 7090 crore.

In an official announcement, the Lucknow-based IPL team has picked KL Rahul as its first player ahead of the mega auction for a whopping price worth INR 17 crore. It has also been confirmed that Aussie all-rounder Marcus Stoinis is their overseas pick and will receive INR 9.2 crore while uncapped leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi is their third player worth INR 4 crore. Rahul, who was earlier released by the Punjab Kings, will now captain the Lucknow franchise in IPL 2022.

Marcus Stoinis was not retained by the Delhi Capitals and he will be seen in the Lucknow colours during the upcoming edition of the cash-rich T20 league while leggie Ravi Bishnoi was released by the Punjab Kings. It was earlier announced that Andy Flower has been appointed as the head coach while former India batsman Gautam Gambhir will be the mentor for the Lucknow IPL team.

IPL Auction 2022 Date

The IPL 2022 mega auction is scheduled to take place on 12 and 13 February in Bengaluru. It has also been learnt that the England duo of Joe Root and Ben Stokes will not be part of the mega auction in order to concentrate on the national team’s Test cricket revival.

On the other hand, the newly introduced Ahmedabad-based IPL team have also announced their first three players namely Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill. Hardik Pandya is likely to captain the CVC-owned IPL franchise.
