Lowest total defended in ODI: Year 2023 is the 50-over World Cup year, and every team is geared up for the 50-overs cricket this year. Team India kicked-off their ODI schedule for 2023 with a whitewash over Sri Lanka at home in a three-match ODI series. Their next assignment is against New Zealand and that too would be a three-match series.
Over the years, India has seen many ups and downs in ODI cricket, and of the highs for Indian bowling has been defending the low scores. In this post, we have listed 5 lowest totals defended in ODI by team India. Take a look.
Lowest total defended in ODI by India
1. Defending 105 vs Bangladesh in Mirpur, Dhaka (2014)
It was an emphatic victory for India in the 2014 away series against Bangladesh. It was a rain curtailed match which got reduced to 41 overs a side. The second game of the three-match series saw team India bundled out for a mere 105 in 25.3 overs with stand-in skipper Suresh Raina being the top scorer with 27 runs.
When everyone thought it would be a walk in the park stuff for Bangladesh, the hosts were bundled out for a shocking 58 in 17.4 overs courtesy of Stuart Binny’s 6 wickets for a mere 4 runs/ 6 for 4 still remains India’s best bowling figure in ODIs.
2. Defending 126 vs Pakistan in Sharjah (1985)
Second on the list is India’s 38 runs win over the arch-rivals Pakistan in Sharjah in 1985. Batting first, India scored just 125 in 42.4 overs with Mohammad Azharuddin being the top scorer (47 off 93). In reply, courtesy of a collective bowling effort from Kapil Dev, Madan Lal, Ravi Shastri, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, and Roger Binny, India bundled out their arch-rivals for just 87 runs.
