13 August is officially celebrated as International Left-Handers’ Day, and we are celebrating it by wishing all the Asian lefties of the cricket world, but before wishing them the #LeftHandersDay, let me take you to a walk for knowing the history of its celebration.
History of Left Handers Day
This day was first observed in 1976 by Dean R. Campbell. He was the founder of Lefthanders International, Inc. This day signifies the uniqueness and differences of the left-handers to the right-handers as they are only 7-10% of the total population.
Sourav Ganguly
Dada started his cricketing career by playing with his brother who is a left-hander. Sourav Ganguly explained his habit of playing with his left hand that he copied his elder brother which usually all younger ones do. Sourav Ganguly scored 16 Test hundreds and 22 ODI tons which is a great achievement for a batsman.
Yuvraj Singh
He almost destructed the career of Stuart Broad in 2007 by his left hand when Yuvraj smashed six sixes on the trot. Thank you so much for giving us (Indians and World Cricket) this moment where we have witnessed the class of a left-hander and also the way to score six on the entirely different spell with six different balls.
Gautam Gambhir
Remember Gauti’s innings in 2007 T20 World Cup final against Pakistan where he scored 75 runs and 2011 World cup Final against Sri Lanka where he scored 97 runs! He was terrific at taking the pressure and giving his best in do or die situations.
Wasim Akram
The Sultan of Swing is a lefty as he took 414 Test and 502 ODI wickets from his left hand and made the ball swung on its merit. He made the lefty proud by making people spellbound over his performance in 22 yards.
Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Chinaman Yadav gave Indians another glittering year in 2017 by taking India’s third ODI hat-trick at Eden Gardens, Kolkata against Australia after Chetan Sharma and Kapil Dev. But Kuldeep is the first left-hand bowler from India who took a hat-trick in ODI.
Last but not the least, Sachin Tendulkar… Yes! He is not a left-hand batsman, but he is a lefty! Check it out here:
I may be left-handed … but I’m always right ?
