Kohli surprised by Windies’ call to bat first

Indian skipper Virat Kohli has admitted that he was surprised to see the Windies bat first in the fifth ODI. He also revealed that he wanted to bowl first on the wicket.

Windies’ disastrous batting performance after winning the toss

Windies captain Jason Holder won the toss in the fifth ODI and elected to bat first. However, his decision proved to be a wrong one as no Windies batsmen made any significant impact and the entire team was bundled out for a mere 104 runs in 32 overs.

In reply, India cruised to a win in just 15 overs as opening batsman Rohit Sharma stormed to a not-out knock of 63 runs off just 56 balls. Indian captain Kohli gave him able support and he stood not-out as well on 33 runs.

Kohli gives the credit to the bowlers

The Indian captain while speaking at the presentation ceremony after the match stated that they wanted to bowl first anyway and he feels that they got lucky. He admitted that they were surprised that West Indies batted first after winning the toss.

The Indian captain termed this as a clinical performance and explained that the credit has to go to the bowling unit for pitching the ball in the right place. At the same time, the right-hand batsman made it clear that they still had to execute their plans and feels that his team was very professional with the ball and the bat.

Holder feels they could have posted 300 runs

It was the first ODI at Thiruvananthapuram and the pitch came under the scanner as Windies were bowled out for a low score in the game. However, the visiting captain Jason Holder felt that they could have made in excess of 300 if they had given themselves a chance and if they had taken a few balls to settle in.
