KL Rahul will be captaining the new franchise, Lucknow Supergiants in IPL 2022. He has already captained in the previous 2 seasons but that didn’t end fruitfully for him.
Come the IPL 2022, KL Rahul will be hoping to turn around with some results to show as a captain. He has represented Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings (Kings XI Punjab) previously in IPL.
KL Rahul in IPL
KL Rahul is the consistent batsman in IPL history and the fact that he holds the record for the batsman with highest average tells you about his consistency.
IPL matches | Runs | Average | Strike rate |
94 | 3273 | 47 | 136 |
KL Rahul is an extremely versatile player with respect to his skillsets. He can smash both pace and spin with ease. His backfoot play is an example of his mettle against pacers.

Year | Innings | Runs | Average | Strike rate |
2016 | 12 | 293 | 48 | 154 |

2020 | 14 | 532 | 76 | 142 |
2021 | 13 | 465 | 51 | 149 |
The above table shows that he is destroying the pace bowlers with unreal consistency which makes him one of the best players of fast bowling in IPL. He is also one of the handful of Indian players to hit the high end pace.
KL Rahul showed what he is capable of, against spinners in the 2018 and 2019 seasons but he has toned down his aggressive instincts against spinners in the middle overs as he wanted to play through the innings in the last 2 year. And as a result, his average has sky rocketed in the last 2 seasons but he has failed to score quickly against them.
