The Punjab Kings (PBKS) are not playing overseas all-rounder Matthew Short in their 11th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) taking place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. It will be really important for the Punjab Kings to make a strong winning comeback especially after having suffered a poor 6-wicket loss at the hands of Mumbai Indians during their last IPL 2023 encounter.
KKR vs PBKS: Why is Matthew Short Not Playing Today’s IPL 2023 Match?
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawan stated that Matthew Short is not included in the PBKS playing 11 for this KKR vs PBKS match on Monday. Incidentally, the Australian batsman is part of the five substitute members list but is unlikely to be used as an Impact Player because the Punjab Kings are batting first. However, Short has not been in the best of forms so far in the Indian Premier League 2023 after making his IPL debut against Sunrisers Hyderabad as he has scored only 117 runs from 6 matches at a strike-rate of under 130 that includes not even a single fifty. Therefore, the Punjab Kings team management are playing Sri Lanka’s Bhanuka Rajapaksa ahead of Short.
“We gonna bat first. The wicket looks quite dry, we would like to put a good total and defend it. That’s a good thing that we are scoring 200 every game. One change, Bhanuka comes in place of Short. Seems like it will stop a bit and come,” said Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawan during the toss.

Punjab Kings has signed Australian all-rounder, Matthew Short, at his base price of INR 20 Lakh as a replacement for the injured Jonny Bairstow. Short is a big-hitting batsman who has been a reliable run-scorer in the T20 format, especially in the Big Bash League. His inclusion in the team is expected to strengthen Punjab Kings’ batting line-up and provide some much-needed firepower. With his proven batting prowess, Short could prove to be a valuable asset for Punjab Kings in the upcoming matches.
