James Anderson scores a new title against India

While Indian batsmen broke numerous records on the first day of the third Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, James Anderson too, landed a major achievement. He became the second player in history to take 100 wickets in Test cricket against India.

It could have been a good day for Hardik Pandya who unfortunately became the victim to Anderson. The all-rounder fell of this wicket which was also the last ball of day one. The said ball was an out-swinger which Pandya tried to defend inside the line but ultimately ended up edging and was caught out by Jos Buttler at second slip.

Another victim was Cheteshwar Pujara, who disappointed the fans once more as he fell after a mere 14 runs. This makes Pujara have a total of 254 runs in England from seven matches. This makes his average around 19.53. This is considered the second worst by a visiting batsman at #3

James Anderson is second to legendary Sri Lankan bowler Muttiah Muralitharan, who took 105 wickets. Third on the list is newly-elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, who held 94 wickets. This is not the first record of this sort for Anderson. He previously achieved this against Australia. He picked up 104 wickets from 31 matches.

Another accolade in Anderson’s name was when he became the first bowler to take 100 wickets at Lord’s, in the second Test. He surely was instrumental in England’s victory, as he had figures of 9 for 43, which is simply brilliant. In the second innings, he picked up 4 wickets for only 23 runs.  England won the match by an innings and 159 runs.

Muralitharan also has the distinction of taking 100 wickets at 3 different venues- Galle, Kandy, and Colombo. Anderson became the second bowler to achieve this distinction.
