Islamabad United PSL 2024 Player List
Colin Munro, Alex Hales, Jordan Cox, Shadab Khan (c), Azam Khan (wk), Imad Wasim, Qasim Akram, Faheem Ashraf, Naseem Shah, Matthew Forde, Hunain Shah, Shamyl Hussain, Salman Ali Agha, Tymal Mills, Rumman Raees, Shahab Khan, Ubaid Shah, Tom Curran
Their draft strategy included securing Jordan Cox, an explosive wicketkeeper-batsman from England boasting a T20 strike rate of 150 this year. Additionally, they added promising local pace talents in Hunain and Ubaid Shah, siblings of the talented Pakistani speedster, Naseem Shah. Matthew Forde, who recently showcased his prowess by claiming three wickets for the West Indies in an ODI against England, was another significant acquisition. The team further strengthened their pace department with the inclusion of English bowlers Tymal Mills and Tom Curran, amassing a formidable pool of nine fast bowlers.
The team’s strategy revolves around the aggressive batting prowess of Colin Munro and Alex Hales, complemented by the explosive hitting abilities of Cox and Azam Khan. Notably, this season marks the absence of veteran power-hitter Asif Ali, who contributed 88 sixes in previous editions. Instead, Imad Wasim and Faheem Ashraf are expected to shoulder the responsibility of fulfilling that role.
Naseem Shah, anticipated to recover from a shoulder injury before the tournament, and Imad Wasim are entrusted with spearheading the team’s bowling efforts during the powerplay. Naseem’s versatility as an all-phase bowler positions him to contribute a couple of crucial overs in the latter stages of the innings as well.
The inclusion of Salman Ali Agha raised eyebrows, given his reputation for batting against spinners despite a relatively lower T20 strike rate of 111.95. However, it’s likely that the team management sees him as a potential anchor in case the aggressive power-hitting strategies face challenges.
With a well-rounded squad and strategic depth in each department, Islamabad United stands poised to make a resounding impact in the upcoming season of the PSL.
