The former Australian captain and the #1 batsman in the longest format of the game in Steve Smith led Rajasthan Royals will be boosted by the presence of Jos Buttler in their 2nd league game against KL Rahul led Kings XI Punjab.
RR started their season in a dramatic manner as they won against MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings in Sharjah where two of their batting mainstays in Steve Smith and Sanju Samson had a majestic outing where both scored half-centuries.
The return of Jos Buttler
It is never a question about the kind of impact that Jos Buttler will have in this RR batting lineup. He is one of the best if not the best opening batsman in T20 cricket in the world at the moment. Ever since he was promoted to open the innings, his returns have been unbelievable to say the least.
He paces his innings to perfection while opening the innings and hardly seems to put a wrong foot forward when he has full 20 overs to crack with the bat. One difficult thing that RR has to make with the return of their star batsman Jos Buttler is to rejig their batting order. They have as many as 3 batsmen who should or well suited to bat inside top 3 and with Jos Buttler returning who is all set to open the innings, the opener of their previous game Steve Smith has to sacrifice that batting position which will inturn push Sanju Samson to #4 which the Kerala batsman is not comfortable with. It will be interesting to see how they manage to adapt to different positions.
Can RR make it two in two?
RR will have task cut out against Kings XI Punjab who are in red hot form as well. They destroyed Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bangalore in their 2nd game courtesy KL Rahul who scored 132 runs from 69 balls.
It will be a run feast for sure as the smaller boundaries in Sharjah will aid the power hitters making it as a graveyard for the bowlers. It can also be seen as the battle between 2 of the destructive opening batters in Jos Buttler and KL Rahul.
