IPL 2021: The big breaking news has arrived that the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been suspended with immediate effect after multiple covid-19 cases reported in more than one IPL franchises camp. The development came after Wriddhiman Saha from Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals’ leg-spinner Amit Mishra tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday. Earlier on Monday, Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier both from the Kolkata Knight Riders camp also tested positive for the deadly virus.
“IPL has been suspended, we will see whether we can reschedule it, it is not cancelled. It is just suspended for now,” said BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla.
IPL Suspended: When will IPL resume?
“The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in an emergency meeting has unanimously decided to postpone IPL 2021 season, with immediate effect,” said the official statement released by IPL.
“The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL. This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and wellbeing of all the stakeholders in mind. These are difficult times, especially in India and while we have tried to bring in some positivity and cheer, however, it is imperative that the tournament is now suspended and everyone goes back to their families and loved ones in these trying times,” the press release added.

“The BCCI will do everything in its powers to arrange for the secure and safe passage of all the participants in IPL 2021. The BCCI would like to thank all the healthcare workers, state associations, players, support staff, franchises, sponsors, partners and all the service providers who have tried their best to organise IPL 2021 even in these extremely difficult times,” the statement concluded.
Going by the official statement released by the BCCI, all the members associated with the IPL 2021 season will now go home and support their families in these testing times. This means that the IPL is not resuming anytime soon as of now. It is also understood that the Indian government has ordered the BCCI that the IPL 2021 cannot continue further in these challenging times all over the country.

Is it possible to reschedule IPL 2021 in September Window?
With several cases reported from the IPL franchises camp, the tournament had to be called-off and now the sources suggest that it could resume after a 7-day break. As per the recent sources, BCCI is currently mulling over the decision of rescheduling the remaining 31 games of IPL 2021 season somewhere during the September window later this year possibly in the UAE.
“A September window is being considered. By then the England-India series would be over and the foreign player would be ready for the T20 World Cup. That small window is being explored,” said a franchise official.
“Now we have to look for a window. If we get one, we will explore holding it. We’ll have to see if it is possible in September. We need to examine the plans of the ICC and other boards,” stated IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel.
