CSK out of IPL 2022 Playoffs: It has not been the ideal Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) campaign for the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) so far. The four-time IPL champions did not had the best of starts this year in the T20 tournament as they lost their first few matches and then skipper Ravindra Jadeja decided to relinquish the captaincy duties back to MS Dhoni in the middle of the season.

After conceding a poor 5-wicket loss at the hands of Mumbai Indians during their most recent match, the Chennai Super Kings have now been knocked out of the tournament. The MS Dhoni-led CSK team are currently placed at the 9th position on the points table with as many as 4 victories and a total of 7 defats in the ongoing competition. Chennai Super Kings have two matches remaining in IPL 2022 against Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals. This is just the second time in the history of the Indian Premier League where CSK will not play the playoffs.

CSK vs MI Highlights: Mumbai Indians derail CSK Playoffs Chances
After losing the toss and being put in to bat first, the Chennai Super Kings got off to a horrendous start as they ended up losing as many as five wickets for just 29 runs in the first six overs of the powerplay. CSK kept on losing wickets at regular intervals during the middle-overs as well before getting bowled out for a paltry total of 97 runs in 16 overs. Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni remained unbeaten till the end with 36 runs off 33 balls. For the Mumbai Indians, Daniel Sams picked up three wickets while Riley Meredith and Kumar Kartikeya also finished with two scalps each.

In the small run-chase, the Mumbai Indians also started off badly as they too lost a total of four wickets in the powerplay. But then the pair of Hrithik Shokeen and Tilak Varma got together to put up a fine partnership of 48 runs. Tilak remained 34 not out while Tim David smacked two brilliant sixes to help Mumbai Indians register their third win in IPL 2022 by 5 wickets.
