The Indian Premier League is a popular cricket tournament that’s held annually. Since the first edition of the IPL, the highest run scorer has received the Orange Cap award. You can check the list of Top 10 Batsmen with Most Runs in a Single IPL Season from 2008 to 2023 here.

The Orange Cap award is given to the highest run scorer in the IPL, and the holder of the cap varies throughout the season until the end. It’s happened many times that the final Orange Cap winner is from the team that didn’t play in the finals or even failed to qualify for the playoffs. This unpredictability is what makes the IPL so much fun but also heartbreaking at times. You can view the details of all the IPL Orange Cap winners here year-wise.
From Matthew Hayden to Sachin Tendulkar to Jos Buttler, numerous top-drawer cricketers have been awarded the IPL Orange Cap. Interestingly, David Warner is the only player with three Orange Caps – 2015, 2017, and 2019. Whereas, ‘The Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle won the Orange Cap twice in his IPL journey in 2011 and 2012.
The only uncapped player to have ever clinched the award was Australia’s Shaun Marsh in 2008 at the age of 24. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants (introduced in 2022) are the only franchise that’s yet to win IPL Orange Cap.
We are hopeful to see a flourish of runs from one’s bat this season of 17 which will place itself on the Top 10 List. Virat Kohli, Jos Buttler, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Subhman Gill can be the top contenders in this competition. Let’s see who among them can make it for twice.
