IPL may shift to Mumbai entirely amid COVID-19 concerns: Report

The rising cases of covid have caused great havoc to the country and the health infrastructure has been an area of concern in the past few months. The whole country has reported a record number of active cases from the past weeks. In the safest of bio-bubble, the cases have been reported today. Before the start of the IPL, there were confirmed positive reports of some players and the groundsmen testing positive. But, the tournament went on with the schedule in April month. But, May 3 was the first occasion when the IPL match between RCB and KKR was postponed due to two KKR players testing positive.

Can IPL 2021 matches shift to Mumbai?
Before the start of the IPL, Mumbai was reporting about 10,000 fresh cases each day. But now the situation has improved in the financial capital and approximately 3000 cases have been reported. There have been rumours about the remaining IPL matches to be shifted to Mumbai. The next round of the IPL will be played in Kolkata and Bangalore. The city of Bangalore has witnessed a huge jump in fresh cases and it may not be possible for the IPL 2021 to take place in a few days.
It has been understood that the BCCI team called at various hotels in Mumbai to enquire about creating the bio-bubble. In this season, Wankhded Stadium has already hosted 10 matches, and the ground at Bandra Kurla Complex was used by the players for training purposes. The Mumbai city has three international grounds, Wankhede, DY Patil, and Brabourne Stadium.

Impact on T20 World CupÂ
The T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place in October this year in India. The 9 venues, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Dharmasala, and Hyderabad were chosen to host the matches. But the rising cases of Covid have certainly put brakes on the organizing committee. There were also reports of the T20 World Cup entirely being played in UAE.
