आईपीएल ने अंतराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट को पहुंचाया काफी नुकसान : माइकल एथर्टन

इंग्लैंड क्रिकेट टीम के एक पूर्व कप्तान माइकल एथर्टन ने आईपीएल (IPL) को अंतराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट के लिए
नुकसानदायक बताया। माइकल एथर्टन ने कहा की जब की आईपीएल क्रिकेटरों को एक बड़ा मंच प्रदान करता है
तथा इसमें पैसे की भी भरमार है लेकिन इस दौरान एक और बात देखने को मिली की आईपीएल अंतराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट में
नकारात्मक प्रभाव डाल रहा है।

माइकल एथर्टन ने यह बातें लॉर्ड्स में भारतीय क्रिकेट टीम के पूर्व कप्तान सौरव गांगुली के किताब ' ए सेंचुरी इस
नॉट इनफ' के लॉन्चिंग के मौके पर कही। इस मौके पर इंग्लैंड के एक और पूर्व खिलाड़ी माईक गेटिंग और श्रीलंकाई
टीम के पूर्व खिलाड़ी और महान बल्लेबाज़ कुमार संघककारा भी मौजूद थे।

आईपीएल क्रिकेट के लिए हानिकारक

माइकल एथर्टन ने कहा की क्रिकेट आज बर्बाद हो रहा है इसके लिए आईपीएल ही ज़िम्मेदार है। एथर्टन ने वर्टमाम
समय में टेस्ट क्रिकेट के भविष्य को ले कर बात करते हुए कहा की T20 जो की धीरे धीरे और लोकप्रिय होता जा रहा है
और खिलाड़ियों को नए मौके और अच्छी कमाई दे रहा है इस दौर में भी इंग्लैंड में टेस्ट क्रिकेट खेले जा रहे हैं।

उन्होंने कहा की भारत में खास कर टेस्ट मैच के दौरान मैदान में दर्शक नही रहते हैं और मैदान खाली रहता है। भारत
में टेस्ट मैच के दौरान मैदान दर्शकों से खाली देख कर दुख होता है लेकिन हमें दिमाग में रखना चाहिए की वहां के
मैदान काफि बड़े होते हैं। उन्होंने कहा की टेस्ट क्रिकेट को हमेशा पसंद किया गया है और अभी भी किया जा रहा है
और हमें लगता है की ऐसा आगे भी जारी रहेगा।

इस मौके पर सौरव गांगुली ने टेस्ट क्रिकेट की बचाने और दर्शकों की इससे जोड़ने के लिए दिन- रात वाले टेस्ट क्रिकेट
की वकालत की। गांगुली ने कहा की एक कामकाजि व्यक्ति के लिए अपने काम से दूर हो कर दिन भर टेस्ट मैच
देखने के लिए सारा दिन मैदान में बैठे रहना काफी कठिन है इसलिए ज़रूरी है की रात दिन के टेस्ट पर ज़ोर दिया
जाए।

Former England skipper Michael Atherton, while praising the Indian Premier League (IPL) for providing great opportunities to players, observed that the cash-rich league was a “disruptive influence” in the game’s community.

Atherton was talking at the launch of his cricketer friend, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly’s book ‘A century is not enough’ at Lord’s. Former England player Mike Gatting and former Sri Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara were also present at the event.

IPL IS HAMPERING CRICKET

“Like any other industry running, cricket has been distorted. IPL has been the reason for this disruption, giving players more options and new opportunities to explore,” Atherton said, talking about the future of Test cricket at a time when T20 Leagues’ are becoming more popular and which also provides players handsome money.

“We still play Test cricket here in England. The grounds in India may look empty (during Test matches) but we also need to keep this in mind that those are much larger grounds. The game has always been enjoying and will continue to be so. Hence, I remain hopeful about the future,” he said.

TEST CRICKET HAS LOST IT’S CHARM

Ganguly batted for more day-night Tests to cater five-day cricket to audiences. “It is difficult for working people to spend the whole day away from work at a cricket ground,” he said. Sangakkara emphasised that Test cricket needs to be “financially feasible” to be able to survive in future. “There is still a great love for Test cricket. But ultimately everything changes. Change is inevitable. We will just have to learn to move on and change our mindset, “he said.

Gatting added: “It is very sad that nowadays, fans do not watch many Test matches in India. But I still believe there will be good days for Test cricket”.

SOME MEMORIES TO CHERISH

Ganguly also recollected the day when he made his Test debut at Lords way back in 1996 against England side led by Atherton.

We could see this would become the beginning of a new generation of Indian players coming through; the onset of great middle order said, Atherton.

After winning the Natwest trophy at Lord’s in 2002 Ganguly spin his jersey in the air.It is still inscribed in the memory of all his fans but when asked to recall that moment, the former India captain replied, saying it was an extremely warm day”
