IPL Auction Date: In a massive recent update, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction start date has been announced. The upcoming edition of the cash-rich T20 tournament will have a total of 10 teams now with the inclusion of two new sides, Ahmedabad and Lucknow. All of the original 8 teams have already submitted their final list of retentions and released players ahead of the mega auction.

The official announcement by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to be made, however, a Cricbuzz report has confirmed that the IPL Auction 2022 is scheduled to take place on 12 and 13 February, 2022 in Bengaluru. The IPL officials are reported to inform the franchises about the schedule of the mega auction later in the day. Incidentally, the IPL auction 2022 date clashes with the second ODI match between India and West Indies scheduled on 12 February at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

“It has been clarified to us that the match and auction are two different things and both will go ahead,” a franchise official told Cricbuzz after obtaining clarification from the BCCI.

The Star Sports Network authorities will have a big role to play in this situation as they are the official broadcast rights holders for both the IPL and India vs West Indies home series.

It is also being learnt that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has written to the international cricketing boards and state associations to send in their respective list of players to be enrolled for the auction latest by 17 January. With the upcoming edition of the IPL set to have as many as 10 teams, it is expected that more than 1000 players will be part of the mega event with 200 to 250 cricketers likely to be part of the final list that will go under the hammer.

The latest media reports have also stated that the IPL officials have already informed all the 10 franchises about the formal pre-auction briefing scheduled to be held on 11 February. The IPL franchise officials have been instructed to be in Bangalore by the evening that day.
