IPL Auction 2022: In a heart-breaking news development, auctioneer Hugh Edmeades suddenly collapsed while announcing the bids in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auction event. The much-awaited IPL 2022 mega auction is currently taking place in Bengaluru and it will be an intense 2-day bidding event.

While announcing a massive bidding war for Sri Lanka’s leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, IPL 2022 auctioneer Hugh Edmeades suddenly collapsed down on the podium. There were tragic scenes in the auction room as the Indian Premier League committee immediately announced an early lunch until 3:30 PM IST. The latest update from Bengaluru is that Edmeades is currently better now and is receiving medical assistance. However, he will no longer take part in the today’s event and Charu Sharma will resume IPL 2022 mega auction at 3:45 PM IST.
“Mr. Hugh Edmeades, the IPL Auctioneer, had an unfortunate fall due to Postural Hypotension during the IPL Auction this afternoon. The medical team attended to him immediately after the incident & he is stable. Mr. Charu Sharma will continue with the Auction proceedings today,” said an official statement released by Indian Premier League.

Who is IPL Auctioneer Hugh Edmeades?
While taking over from the experienced Richard Madley, Hugh Edmeades came into the picture for the first time in 2018 as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) brought him on board as the IPL auctioneer. Edmeades has a huge experience of 35 years having conducted a total of more than 2500 auctions on a global platform. Coming all the way from London, he has been involved in a number of auction events including international fine art, classic cars and charities. Hugh Edmeades also owns a website on the internet which includes the complete details of all the items he has auctioned so far in his career.

While talking about the ongoing auction event, the Kolkata Knight Riders came up with the biggest bid procuring Shreyas Iyer for a massive amount worth INR 12.25 Crore while they also bought the duo of Pat Cummins and Nitish Rana for INR 7.25 and 8 Crore respectively. The Punjab Kings have picked Kagiso Rabada, Shikhar Dhawan for a price worth INR 9.25 and 8.25 Crore respectively.
