Royal Challengers Bangalore had a season filled with ups and downs in the IPL 2024. They almost crashed out of the competition after winning only one match and losing 7 from their first 8 games. However, the Bengaluru-based franchise bounced back strongly by winning the next 6 matches and sealing a spot in the playoffs.
However, Royal Challengers Bengaluru lost to Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator but it was no mean feat to play the Eliminator from the position they were at one point in time. Now, the season is over and the RCB will look at the next season.
The franchise will look to make some tough decisions ahead of the new season as they could release some superstars from the squad ahead of the next season. There will be mega auctions ahead of the IPL 2025 and Royal Challengers Bengaluru will try to assemble a squad worthy of a title challenge.
While the IPL governing council has not issued any information regarding the mega auctions for the IPL 2025, we are assuming that every franchise might get a chance to retain 5 players, including 2 foreign players and one RTM (Right to Match) card. Meanwhile, in this post, we will take a look at 5 Players likely to be retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore.
1. Virat Kohli
Royal Challengers Bangalore are synonymous with Virat Kohli and there is no chance that the franchise will let go of their most prized asset. Virat Kohli had another successful season with the bat as he ended with the Orange Cap courtesy of 479 runs in 15 matches at an average of 61.75, including 5 half-centuries and 1 century.
2. Will Jacks
The Englishman finally got the chance to play for the franchise and he impressed with his all-round abilities. Will Jacks is an attacking top-order batter, who is also a handy off-spinner with the ball. In 8 matches, he scored 230 runs, including a century and also picked up 2 wickets with the ball. Will Jacks could be the long-term opening solution for the RCB and they could opt to retain him for the IPL 2025.
3. Rajat Patidar
Rajat Patidar was one of the main reasons behind RCB’s late surge in the IPL 2024. After a slow start, Patidar found his form and finished with 395 runs in 15 matches, including 5 fifties. The RCB need some solid Indian batters to form the core of their batting and Rajat Patidar is one of the best middle-order batters in the circuit currently. Royal Challengers Bangalore would like to build a team around Kohli and Patidar in the IPL 2025.
4. Yash Dayal
Yash Dayal was RCB’s most impactful bowler in the IPL 2024. The left-arm pacer finished as the team’s highest wicket-taker with 15 wickets. Furthermore, he bowled the difficult overs for the franchise in the powerplay and at the death. Royal Challengers Bangalore play their home matches at the M Chinnaswamy and they need a skilled bowling attack to be successful at home. Hence, they will look to keep their best bowler ahead of the mega auctions for IPL 2025.
5. Cameron Green
Many might argue but Cameron Green had a pretty decent season for RCB in the IPL 2024. The Aussie all-rounder scored 255 runs and picked up 10 wickets in 13 matches. Cameron Green started slowly but he made some vital contributions with the bat and the ball in the second half to push the franchise to the playoffs. A world-class all-rounder is always on the priority list of all franchises during the mega auctions. Royal Challengers Bangalore might release the Aussie ahead of the mega auctions but they are likely to use the RTM card to secure his services on a discounted price.
