IPL 2022: Mark Wood OUT of the tournament? Here’s the update

IPL 2022: In a massive news development, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) premier fast bowler Mark Wood has been ruled out from the upcoming 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with an elbow injury. He is the third English player to miss the entire T20 tournament after the duo of Jason Roy and Alex Hales who earlier pulled off due to bio-bubble fatigue. Wood last played in the Indian Premier League for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2018.

England pace bowler Mark Wood sustained a right elbow injury on the fifth day of the 1st Test match against West Indies. He also missed the ongoing WI vs ENG 2nd Test match at the Kensington Oval due to the same injury issue. A recent report by ESPNcricinfo states that the Lucknow Super Giants will miss Wood’s services for the entire Indian Premier League 2022 season. It has also been understood that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has sent a medical update to the Lucknow IPL franchise officials informing about the pacer’s unavailability.
Earlier during the IPL 2022 mega auction, the Lucknow Super Giants bought Mark Wood for a whopping price worth INR 7.5 Crore. LSG are yet to name a replacement for the right-arm fast bowler.

In its debut IPL season, the Lucknow Super Giants owners and team management did a fantastic job to acquire a strong unit during 2022 auction event. The duo of skipper KL Rahul and wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock will open the batting for LSG in their first match against Gujarat Titans on 28 March at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The likes of Manish Pandey, Deepak Hooda, Marcus Stoinis will comprise of the middle-order.

Krunal Pandya and Ravi Bishnoi will be the two frontline spinners. The likes of Dushmantha Chameera, Avesh Khan, Jason Holder and Ankit Rajpoot will form part of the pace bowling attack. Quinton de Kock, Jason Holder, Marcus Stoinis and Dushmantha Chameera will be their four overseas players.
