Jason Roy IPL – The IPL month is here and all the teams will be soon starting their training camps to gear up for the 10 team tournament that is set to commence on 26th of March. The mega auction that took place in February saw teams build their squad from scratch and a lot of eyes were on the two new teams on how they would go about their business.
One of the two new teams in Gujarat Titans picked a fairly good squad when compared to some other teams in the competition but they have faced a huge blow ahead of the season as their star opener has withdrawn from the IPL.
Jason Roy to not feature in IPL 2022
Gujarat Titans picked Shubman Gill in the draft prior to the auction who is a very good player of spin bowling. He can either open the innings or play at #3 who can control the innings from 7-16 overs period. Gujarat Titans needed a good pace hitter to compliment the young Shubman Gill and they got Jason Roy for a fairly cheap price of 2c in the auction who is one of the best pace hitters in the world if not the best. Although they messed up the auction going forward by buying Rahul Tewatia for a whopping 9 crore rupees when they already had Rashid Khan in their team.
Jason Roy has announced that he will not play this year’s IPL as he needs to be in bio bubble which means staying away from his family that includes his second child that was born in January 2022. Jason Roy had a great PSL season which happened in a secure bio bubble environment as well, where he scored 303 runs at an impressive strike rate of 170 at an average of 50.
Matthew Wade likely to open with Shubman Gill
Gujarat Titans have Matthew Wade in their squad who can take up the role of pace power hitter at the top of the order in the absence of Jason Roy, and form a decent enough pair with Shubman Gill.
