Deepak Chahar Replacement: Ahead of the IPL 2022, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were at the receiving end of a major blow as pacer Deepak Chahar suffered a right quadriceps injury while bowling in the T20I series against West Indies. He then was undergoing rehab at NCA and was expected to join the team’s squad mid-way during the tournament. However, just when it seemed that CSK’s bowling line-up will be boosted with the return of Chahar, it was learned that the right-arm pacer suffered a fresh injury at NCA, which is likely to keep him 4 months away from the action.
IPL 2022: 5 possible Deepak Chahar Replacement in CSK 2022 squad
Now with Deepak Chahar ruled out of the IPL 2022, the franchise will need a replacement who can fill the void left by him. Let’s take a look at five possible replacements.
Ishant Sharma
Ishant Sharma can be the first choice replacement for Deepak Chahar in CSK 2022 squad. The veteran Indian pacer has the ability to swing the new ball and can be the like-to-like change for Chahar. With him having a plethora of experience, CSK management can consider him in the squad. He represented Delhi Capitals in the last few seasons and went unsold in IPL 2022 auction. So far, he has played 93 matches and has taken 72 wickets at an economy of 8.11.

Dhawal Kulkarni
After being part of Mumbai Indians in the last few editions, Dhawal Kulkarni failed to attract any bidders in the IPL 2022 auction. The Mumbai pacer could well be in consideration by CSK’s management as the replacement for Deepak Chahar. He can be very handy with the ball inside the power play as his ability to move the new ball has often troubled the batters. So far he has played 92 IPL matches and has taken 86 wickets at an economy of 8.30. Apart from MI, he has represented Rajasthan Royals and now-defunct Gujarat Lions.
Sandeep Warrier
Sandeep Warrier impressed many with his performance in the IPL 2021 for Kolkata Knight Riders, which even made him earn his India debut. He has been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit. He ended the 2018-19 Vijay Hazare Trophy as the leading wicket-taker for Kerela and then in the next season followed up his performance with a sensational hat-trick. He can be on CSK’s radar as a replacement player, considering his ability to bowl express pace. Warrier has so far only featured in 5 IPL matches and has taken 2 wickets.

Arzan Nagwaswalla
Another potential name that CSK can look for as a replacement for Deepak Chahar is Arzan Nagwaswalla. The Gujarat pacer has been travelling with Team India for quite some time and can fit into CSK’s 2022 squad, considering his learnings. He also brings in a left-arm angle into the match, which many batsmen don’t fancy playing. Nagwaswalla made his domestic debut for Gujarat in 2018 and since then he has also risen in ranks and put on some staggering performances. He’s yet to make his debut in the IPL.
Amit Mishra
The number of success leg-spinners has had in the recent past, CSK can also look to replace pacer Deepak Chahar with leg-spinner Amit Mishra, who is among the leading wicket-taker in the IPL. The four-time champions lack a quality leg-spinner in their side this time around and it can be a staggering move to bring Mishra into the side. The veteran spinner has played 154 matches in the league and has 166 wickets to his name at an economy of just over 7.
