Jofra Archer IPL 2021: Fast bowler Jofra Archer was forced to sit out the 2nd and 4th test match in England’s tour of India due to an elbow issue. The 26-year-old played in the subsequent five T20Is however, but the injury came to haunt him back thus forcing the young English bowler to miss the ODI series against India.
Rajasthan Royals were hoping to have Archer back at some point in IPL 2021 season, but the elbow issue never went away despite the bowler receiving a cortisone injection in March to address the injury.

Earlier this month, Archer was declared fit to return to action in the County Championship with Sussex. However, he could bowl only five overs in the 2nd innings against Kent, after complaining of elbow pain.
And on Friday, he has reportedly undergone surgery to operate on his nagging elbow issue.
As per reports, the ECB hasn’t put any timeframe on his possible return but it is thought that the 26-year-old may play some part in the Test series against India, which will be played in August and September. ECB also hope that Archer will play a full part in the World Cup T20 and the Ashes scheduled to take place at the end of the year.
And since the phase of the IPL 2021 season is likely to be played after England vs India test series, Rajasthan Royals may hope to have Archer back for the remainder of the season.

Archer’s elbow issue is thought to come to prominence when he was forced to pull out of the Cape Town test in 2020. Since then, he has missed a significant number of international games, including the IPL, while playing in only six test matches.
Archer was burdened with heavy bowling duties earlier in his career. He bowled the most number of overs in the 2019 World Cup and had to bowl 42 overs and more than 40 in two consecutive tests.

“From what I understand, either short-term or long term, his (Jofra Archer) elbow will recover. I would expect him to play a lot more international cricket for England. This is just a small blip on his journey,” England Coach Jon Lewis.
Considering Archer’s recent injury problems and his importance to the team, ECB may be forced to handle their prime bowler more cautiously. There are some who think that Archer may not get the NOC to play in the IPL 2021 whenever the tournament starts.
