IPL News: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced that the remaining 31 fixtures of IPL 2021 will be contested in the September-October window in the UAE. However, With the ICC T20 World Cup originally scheduled from October 18 in India, it is highly likely that the ICC and the BCCI would agree for a change in venue if not a change in date.
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to major problems in India, and it would be ideal for the mega event to be hosted somewhere else, with UAE and Oman being frontrunners. There were talks, that the BCCI could push the final date of the IPL to October 18th instead of October 10th, in order have fewer double headers. This factor was being considered as it would lead to fewer double headers, and it would reduce the work on the players as well.

IPL Date to be extended?
But, as per recent reports, the ICC might not agree to extend IPL Phase 2 beyond October 15, as all players will be required to head back to their international camps as quick as possible.
“T20 World Cup is likely to start from 18th Oct, how is it possible for IPL 2021 to continue till October 15th. ICC will never allow such a clash. Moreover, why teams participating in ICC T20 World Cup will allow their players to continue in IPL till 15th Oct? We feel BCCI will not extend the IPL 2021 beyond 10th October,” one of the sources said.
When is T20 World Cup?
As per the ICC, the T20 World Cup is supposed to kick off from mid-October, with the finals scheduled for November 14. The rules are that no tournament/series should be planned, by a minimum of seven to ten days prior to a major ICC event. That being said, the BCCI is expected to put in an official statement within a few days regarding the schedule.
