IPL 2021: Chennai Super Kings Squad Performance Rating

CSK in IPL 2021 outclassed every team with its blistering performance. Unlike last season the team looked well balanced and everyone performed as a match-winner.

In this season the team played 7 matches out of which they’ve won 5 and lost only 2. The team placed 2nd on the points table with 10 points. Here is the rating of the entire squad out of 10. 

 

1. Faf Du Plessis (9/10)

Faf in this season turned out to be the biggest match-winner for CSK. He scored 320 runs in 7 matches with an impressive average of 64 which comprised four 50+ scores. His opening partnerships were the reason why CSK got a good start in the entire tournament. For his performance this season, we rated him 9 on a scale of 10 points. 

2. Ruturaj Gaikwad (7/10)

After getting failures in the first couple of games, Ruturaj bounced back in style. He ended up scoring 196 runs in 7 matches including 2 half-centuries. He is an emerging player to watch out for in the future for CSK. We rated him 7 on a scale of 10 points.

3. Moeen Ali (8/10)

Moeen Ali fascinated everyone with both bat and bowl in the tournament. CSK used Moeen Ali better than anyone else. In 6 matches he has scored 206 runs with an average of 34.33 and a strike rate of 157.25. With the bowl, he took 5 wickets in 6 matches with an economy rate of 6.16. We rated him 8 on a scale of 10 points. 

4. Suresh Raina (5/10)

Suresh Raina was not very successful this season. He only scored 123 runs in 7 games with an average of 24.60. He only scored one half-century and looked rusty with his bat in the entire tournament. We rated him 5 on a scale of 10 points. 

5. Ambati Rayudu (7/10)

Ambati Rayudu was the backbone of CSK’s middle order. In 7 matches he scored 136 runs at a decent average of 34 and a phenomenal strike rate of 200. He scored only a single half-century. We rated him 7 on a scale of 10 points. 

6. Ravindra Jadeja (9/10)

Jadeja turned out to be the biggest game-changer for CSK this season. He was the most impactful player for CSK. In 7 matches he scored 131 runs with an average of 131 and a strike rate of 161. His match-winning knock against RCB will be remembered as one of the finest knocks of the tournament. We rated him 9 on a scale of 10 points

7. MS Dhoni (5/10)

MS Dhoni’s role this season was to lead the team successfully which he did. His batting numbers aren’t that impressive as he didn’t come out to bat the most number of times. In 7 matches he scored only 34 runs with an average of 12.33. We rated him 5 on a scale of 10 points.

8. Sam Curran (7/10)

The English all-rounder impressed everyone with his wicket-taking ability at crucial times. In 7 matches he took 9 wickets with an economy of 8.68. He also scored 52 runs, with the highest score of 34. He didn’t get to bat much in the tournament. We rated him 7 on a scale of 10 points.

9. Deepak Chahar (8/10)

Deepak Chahar was one of the most successful bowlers in the power plays of the tournament. He took 8 wickets in 7 matches with an economy rate of 8.04. We rated him 8 on a scale of 10 points. 

10. Shardul Thakur (6/10)

Shardul Thakur’s economy rate was the major concern for CSK this season. In 7 games he took only 5 wickets with an economy rate of whooping 10.33. Shardul struggled with his line and length in the entire tournament. We rated him 6 on a scale of 10 points. 

11. Lungi Ngidi (7/10)

The South African pacer played only 3 games this season and took 5 wickets with an economy rate of 10.41. His economy rate was also poor in the tournament. We rated him 7 on a scale of 10 points.
